My goal this year was a big bike ride. I wanted to do Little Red, but didn’t get in so I opted for the first ever Wildflower Pedalfest 75 mile ride. The plan was for me to ride with my friend Jill, but a couple of weeks before the ride she had to change plans. Who else could take on a ride of this magnitude with short notice than Diane Lake, a very seasoned rider. We had fun doing some rides together before the big day.
The ride was great. Diane went super slow so I could keep up with her. She stuck with me except for on big mountain, the only timed portion of the ride. 5.5 miles straight on up the mountain. I just kept on pedaling and made it to the top without stopping, of course I was SO slow.
Here we are at our first stop, East Canyon
And there we are at the top! Diane did it in a brisk 48 minutes and I was right there behind her at 1 hour and 6 minutes, ha she was so nice to wait for me.
I felt good until about mile 60 and then I just ran out of steam. We kept on pedaling to make it to the end.
We had a great time together even though it was a long long day. 6 1/2 hours of actual riding and about another hour of stopping and who knows what.
I sometimes get discouraged at these things I think I can do. I am so much slower than everyone else. I finally decided that I don’t train to do an event, I decide I am doing the event and then do it the best I can. I am slow, but I still love the feeling of accomplishing!
