A Child’s Prayer

 

Jonah loves giving prayers.  He still needs someone to help him know what to say.  A few weeks ago he started adding “at the store” to the end of some of the things we were telling him to say.  We all chuckled in the beginning and now try to not chuckle because he knows we think it is so funny.  He gets a big grin on his face each time he says it.  The other night I thought I would pull a fast one on him and as he was adding “at the store” to the end of everything, I said “thank you we could go to the store”.  Without missing a beat he said, “thank you we could go to the church”.  Not quite sure where any of this came from, but while we enjoy it we may have to teach him to stop one day!

Hello February

Hello there and welcome, you have so far exceeded my expectations of February.  Two nice days in a row where I can be outside without a coat and my kids can ride bikes and skateboards.  It is so nice to have you around.  I will still expect some snow storms and cold days, but you have given the little hint that spring will indeed come again!

***side note, this is not complaining about the weather.  We do need a lot more snow in order to fill our lakes!

What is up…..

with me? I can't ever think about anything to blog about. Maybe that is the problem, I am trying to think about it instead of just letting it happen. Let's see maybe I can find some fun pictures to post.

Have I told everyone my sister Bethany is having twins???? Here we are celebrating her 37th birthday last week.

 

What a good big brother Nee Nee (Brandon) is, Jonah LOVES when the boys get home from school.

Random Friday

I have not been doing a very good job at blogging lately, so I thought I would recap what is going on this week.

Monday was Martin Luther King Jr. day and Jacob’s comment is one that I want to remember.  That morning we listened to part of MLK Jr.’s speech and once it was over he said.  “If it weren’t for MLK then Laila (his darling latino friend) and I wouldn’t even be able to be friends, she wouldn’t even be able to get a job.”  Made me laugh, but I guess he understands the point a little bit, even though she is Latino.

We stared an impromptu minor laundry room remodel.  This was brought on last Friday when my washing machine quit working.  Hey as long as we have to move the washer out, we might as well tile the floor and paint, which then led to me taking out the cupboards and pounding away at the soffit above them.  This then led me to leave and go to a movie and let Bryan deal with the problem.  We discovered the builders had built a nice sturdy soffit  completely out of wood, and for what reason????  So anyways we are trying to get the room put back together tomorrow so I can start doing the 20 loads of laundry that are piled up.

Here is a darling shot, i think, of the joy of having boys.  We discovered a butter knife that Jonah had thrown down the heater vent (hardwood build in vent) and the boys are all trying to figure out how the best way to get it out will be.

So there you have it, my life this week in a nutshell.  Oh and also dealing with the emotions that run wild this time of year for me.

Ironing, a lost trait

Last Friday my iron blew up.  I was trying to be a good wife/mom and get the boys clothes ironed for Sunday.  I was thinking ahead and getting it done before Sunday morning.  I also had some shirts of mine that needed to be ironed.  Well I got Jacob’s clothes done and then my iron made this loud pouf of steam, started leaking out brown stuff and got cold. 

O.K. I  know not a lot of people iron, but I do not want to pay to have all of Bryan’s shirts, some of my clothes and  Brandon and Jacob’s church clothes ironed.  To those of you who are saying that you never iron, my question to you is this,  what do you do with your wrinkled clothes?  I am not the best laundry person in the world so clothes can sit in the dryer or a basket for some time.  Even then though I have shirts that I don’t put in the dryer and so they are always wrinkled once they are dried.

It seems like I am always buying a new iron.  They break so often.   Is there a magic iron out there that will last more than a few years, or am I just destined to having to buy a new iron often?  I don’t mind ironing, when I remember to do it, but I do not like having to go and buy a new iron!

Geography Bee

Last year at this time it was the spelling bee, this year the geography bee.   Brandon won his class bee and so today was the school bee.  We went over some sample questions this week and all I could say to him was, GOOD LUCK!  I couldn’t pronounce some of the countries let alone tell where they were located.  He did very well at the school bee and came in 3rd place!  I am very proud of him.  I think I knew the answer to 2 or 3 questions out of all the lots of questions that were asked.  Random rivers seemed to be the favorite topic of questions, how would anyone ever learn all of the rivers in the world?  Anyways I think he did great and am proud of him.  He asked me this morning that if he ended up in the top 7 would I take him for ice cream, so looks like he and I have a date for tonight!

As always, Brandon always looks a bit goofy in pictures.  Good thing everyone knows how good looking he is in real life!

Thoughts for the New Year

This year I hope to:

Spend less
Eat less
Love more
Laugh more
Slow down life
Enjoy each and every day
Stay healthy (and my family also)
Think of others more
Go to more movies
Eat at really good restaurants
Do at least one home project a month
Continue not to complain about the weather
Maybe start not complaining in general!

and most importantly I WILL make it to Mexico this year.
