Happy Easter

We don’t ever have big plans for Easter.  My family doesn’t get together and do a fun egg hunt or party.  I always think we should, I just think about it the day of Easter instead of at a time when I could plan it.  Maybe next year, but I doubt I will remember!

Jonah’s primary teacher invited his class to a little hunt at her house on Saturday.  She also invited Brandon and Jacob to hide the eggs.  They all had a good time and came home with really good candy.  I was absent from the hunt due to the fact that I was running 9 miles pretty much ALL straight up this mountain we live on.

Later in the day my brother Michael’s girlfriend, Megan, invited the boys to a party at her sister’s house.  So off they went and came home hours later with TONS of candy and money filled eggs.  They had a blast and consumed more sugar than should be consumed in an entire year.  Brandon came home saying, “welcome to pre diabetes camp”.  Great.

That night we colored our eggs.  Brandon and Jacob participated for about 3 minutes and then Jonah colored and re colored the eggs for about a half an hour.  He had a great time.

Sunday morning the Easter bunny came with a few little things and even fewer candy (the Easter bunny couldn’t stand the thought of them having more!)

Jacob was pretty sick so he didn’t get to go to church, and that is why he was not dressed appropriately in our picture.

And we ended the day with a low key dinner at my sister’s house, because we were all worn out from big affairs.

Baseball Again!!!

I have to report on Jacob's first game of the season. Yesterday morning I told Jacob, "Don't plan on playing today, it is supposed to rain and snow." Much to everyone's surprise it did not rain and snow and the game was played. It was FREEZING, I sat huddled with Jonah in my winter coat and 2 blankets. Then I would get too nervous and have to get up and pace back and forth while Jonah cried for me to hold him again.

Jacob and Brandon both play "up" in baseball. They have summer birthdays and are supposed to be a certain age by April, but they want to play with their classmates so we let them play up.

Jacob's first game in the minor league and he pitched. I was not as nervous as I should have been. His first time EVER pitching to real batters. He did great. Struck out a few, walked a lot, caught pop flys. After pitching 2 innings he moved to catcher. I don't know why, but I get way more nervous when my kids play catcher. He also had a great hit that unfortunately was caught, but he got on base another up by walking and scored for the team. I had to leave a few minutes early with the score tied. Apparently Jacob's team won by some no time to finish the inning rule.

Ah, so good to be back at the ball park. If the weather warms up and my nerves can take it, it will be a great season.

Baseball!!!

The baseball season officially started yesterday at our house. I had been running here and there all afternoon (not literally running, driving, I did run in the morning though). As I tried to remember all the things we needed for a baseball game I was a little frazzled. I got to the park sat down at Brandon’s game and was in heaven for the next hour and 15 minutes. I LOVE it! So fun to watch. Brandon did awesome, even with his one eye partly swollen closed. He played first base the whole time, had a great long hit that unfortunately got caught and got hit in the arm at his next up to bat. He now has a swollen and bruised arm to match his eye!

I am keeping my fingers crossed that Jacob’s first game Thursday evening will not be cancelled. And crossing more fingers hoping the weather will WARM up!

Ha, I almost forgot to mention that his team won! We are so used to never winning that I forgot to mention it. 9-8 for the Dodgers after being down 3-8 going into the last inning. And yes Brandon was one of those runs home!

Always something

Brandon and Jacob asked us to move the trampoline underneath the basketball hoop on Sunday.  I said, OK, but I know someone is going to get hurt.  We moved it and then Bryan and I went on a walk.  As we were heading back I got a call from Jacob.  He said, hurry home Brandon fell off the trampoline.  I said, Did he break his arm? “No”.  Did he break his leg? “No”.  Is he conscious? “No”.  He isn’t conscious??????  “Well do you want to talk to him?”  I said, no goodbye I will see you soon.  We got home and they thought they were so funny and that they had tricked us, we weren’t concerned at all.  Brandon had hurt his finger a little bit and they got a kick out of it.

So about an hour later Jeffrey Beck comes over for a little visit.  What happens when a Beck boy is around?  This is what happened to Jacob a few years back when Ryan threw a baseball at him.

So back to Sunday night.  I hear someone crying really loud outside and I think it must be a neighbor.  I then glance out back and see Jeff laughing and Brandon on the ground.

Jeff threw Brandon a pass and Brandon dunked it (on the ground) when he came down he hit his face on the edge of the trampoline….hard.

Here it was yesterday morning.  He made it through half the day of school and then called me to come and get him.  He couldn’t read and had a really bad headache…….really????

This morning is opens a bit more and it much more blue, but he wouldn’t let me take any more pictures.  Jonah has prayed that he is thankful for Brandon’s goofy eye.  Too bad there isn’t a really good story to go along with the injury!

Will it really?

A friend bore her testimony on Sunday and in it she said, “I know spring will come (meaning warmer weather) because it always does”.  Yes I have faith, but this year will it really come?  Will we have more than one semi nice day a week?  It is April 15th, there is snow on my grass.  It was 32 degrees when I went running this morning, my winter running gear is getting very very worn out.

IMG_2617

Wednesday was a semi nice day.  I hauled and hauled and hauled garbage, wood, branches and other junk that had accumulated on the side of my house over the winter to the front yard for spring clean up.  Side note, I don’t know what gives me more joy, spring and fall clean up days or recycle garbage days.  Anyways the day was nice, we had our lawn pooped, the wind started howling and soon there was 2 inches of snow on the grass.

I am not going to complain, I am going to think positive warm weather thoughts.  I am not going to plan on being warm until June.  I am going to hope that when baseball games start next week the field is dry.  I am going to enjoy summer even more than I know I already will.  I love super warm weather.

Spring Break?????

What did we do for spring break?  A bunch of nothing, which was fine.  I would have preferred to not have such a long break and to have school end earlier or better yet not have school starting in the MIDDLE of the summer again this year.  Ahhh my blood pressure spikes every time I think about it!

Anyways we  tried to make it work to go to Mexico again for the break, didn’t work out.  Tried to get to St. George, didn’t work.  Tried to go with my sister and her family to Las Vegas, didn’t work.  Tried to stay home and have it rain and snow for about 4 days straight and be freezing, that worked!

We enjoyed several days of just doing whatever.  Went to Aliska’s birthday party, ran errands, Mom took a loooooong nap (I was sick), boys go hit a bucket of balls with Dad (oh wait 2 feet of snow at our regular course, good thing there are several around), go to the Gateway mall and look at every possible thing to do with sports and the apple store, watch a movie and have a sleepover in the family room (really wishing it was on the trampoline), having my BFF and her kids come over for the day to just have fun and eat good food, watch Whitney Kofford on the Price is Right and can’t believe she lived my life long dream!!!!, go eat lunch at the IMC cafeteria with our SOON TO BE new aunt/sister in law, hang out with our cousins who live so far away in Salt Lake so we don’t see often, wish it was warm, wish we were somewhere warm, wish we could set up the basketball hoop that arrived after 2 days of ordering instead of the 2 weeks it said (happy early Easter).

Lunch with the boys favorite almost aunt, and Jonah’s favorite person in the whole world.

It was a good week.  Nothing super exciting, but nice to not have to get up early, do homework or have any kind of schedule…….my kind of life.

Yes, it is true

IMG_2614

After all my talk and kind of complaining…….he did it.  If I had just been patient I would have not had to worry.  He was finally ready this past week and there is no going back!  I love the feel of baby bum in a diaper, but there is something about baby bum in little tiny underwear as well!

Surely I have other things to talk about than potty training.  Like the fact that I am trying to figure out a place for us to go on vacation next week (I keep really trying for Mexico, but it isn’t going to work out.)  And the fact that I have been planning and trying to prepare for our relief society birthday dinner/activity this week.  And as a result of that celebration I have gained lots of pounds trying different delicious cupcakes.  And the ragnar team I am running the Wasatch Back in June with keeps falling apart and I am replacing people as fast as I can.

Other than that, it is all about potty training.
