Randoms of the Week

I LOVE baseball season, more to come on that later, I really love when Brandon and Joshua play each other.   We got a great shot of them last year and here they are again together this year.

We are dog sitting for Nate and his girlfriend while they are traveling all around the world for 5 weeks.  I love having them right by me while I am working in the yard.  Jonah and I took Marley and Bentley on a walk the other evening.  Jonah mowing the lawn the whole way, we went over a mile and he wanted to keep walking further.

I would devote a whole post to Brandon receiving his Arrow of Light, but I can’t decide how I feel about it.  I am very proud of him and most of you know how I feel about the whole cub scout thing!

2 super cute stories about Jonah.

This morning Jacob asked if he could have Fruit Loops for breakfast (I only allow them to have cold cereal on Fridays).  I told him no we don’t have sugar for breakfast, he asked then why did Jonah get to.  I replied, Jonah doesn’t have to go to school and learn.  Jonah heard his name and school in the same sentence and came running with the biggest grin on his face.  “What  you say Momma?”  “What you say, I going to school?”  I feel so bad, this poor little boy wants to go to school so badly and I am not sending him to pre school in the Fall.  I wish I had a video of the event because it was so dang cute.

O.K. last one.  Jonah sometimes watches a show on PBS called “Super Why”.  In the show they sing “Hip Hip Hooray, the Super Reader Saved the Day”.  I find Jonah all the time walking around the house singing, “Hip Hip Hooray, the Jonah Baby Saved the Day.”  Seriously it is the cutest thing!

Hair????

My niece Hailey was told by her Mom that they could do something special.  Her request was to get her hair and nails done.  She for some reason thought that I would be good at this (you know because I don’t have any girls) so she called to see if we could play beauty parlor today.

I did a little research on a hair idea blog and did my best.  Certainly wasn’t as cute as the picture in the blog, but I think it still turned out pretty cute.  I need some more practice with the “chi” curls.  I definitely need some practice with flowers on the fingernails and toenails, they make it look so easy at #1 Nails.

Kind of fun for me, not my typical Friday afternoon!

March for Babies 2010

Last Saturday was the March of Dimes, March for Babies.  It turned out to be a great day.  The event was held at This is the Place Heritage Park.  A perfect day for the event, the sun was shining and lots of people came.  I am on the family teams committee, which doesn’t mean a lot, but I did a bit in order to prepare for it.  My claim to fame for the event was the 2,000 creamies I got donated, yep thanks to me people could have a nice cool creamie towards the end of the walk.

My BFF’s family came and so did my brother Chris and 3 of his girls.  It was fun to have people with us this year.  Thanks to everyone who donated and came or even thought about donating and coming!

Jonah by his sign on the Ambassador Avenue.  Yes he didn’t quite look like his cute self for most of the day.

The cutest cowboy at the whole event.

There we are!

Fun at the end of the day.

Jonah on the pony which he did NOT want to ride.  I finally convinced him to get on it, he then never wanted to get off and cried when it was time to leave.

And of course a ride on the train which thrilled Jonah, but he wouldn’t let go of Bryan.

O.K. this picture is from the Deseret News.  See that blond hair looking down in the grey shirt?  That is me.  We made the newspaper, our group was also on the news for a milisecond.

Another great year for a great cause.  Next year we will be back again.

I’m Not Complaining

I don’t complain about the weather anymore, well I try not to.  Yesterday I said to Tiffany, I am not complaining, but I really am tired of this weather.  Her reply was something about this is spring, some days are nice and some are rainy.  She then said, would you want everyday to be just sunny?  I can’t remember how I replied, all I can remember is the stunned thought in my mind.  I can’t stop thinking about the brief conversation so here is my correct answer to that question.

YES, yes, yes I would want everyday of spring and summer to be SUNNY.  I love the sun, I love the warmth it brings, I love the way it feels on my face, I love the sun so very much.   I love spending the day outside with no chance of a chill in the air, I love going to my kids baseball games with sunglasses on and not a winter coat, I love running in the early morning sun without a rain jacket on (although I do kind of like running in the rain).  I love for my garden to be planted before Mother’s Day, I love working in the yard in a short sleeve shirt, I love the sun.

So there it is, certainly no offense to people who don’t love the sun as much as I do.  I appreciate the snow and rain in the fall and winter.  It can rain in the spring and summer as long as it is during the night and no events get cancelled because of it.

Splash n’ Sprint

I just can’t get enough of triathlons!  Yesterday I did my third tri.  The night before I was feeling weird and thinking why do I keep doing these different races?  I finally realized that I was nervous, that doesn’t happen very often to me.  As soon as I was up and ready to go there was no nervousness, just excitement.  The race was at the rec center again and I did it on my own.

I made sure this time to get a good swimming spot so I didn’t have to stand around for so long waiting.  I joined the 9 min. swimmers even though I am more of an 11 min. swimmer.  It was great, everyone ahead of me was faster so I didn’t run into anyone and the people who passed me got out of the way quickly.  I did think during the swim, this is so hard, then I relaxed and just swam.  Bryan and the boys didn’t make it in time to see me swim which was a little sad, but no time to worry about that.

I had stressed for  2 weeks about what to wear, it wasn’t going to be very warm and biking wet can be cold.  I brought about 4 shirts and 2 different bottoms and as I ran to my transition area I made a split second decision on shorts and a long shirt.  I added a light jacket for the bike and hopped on and away I went.  The only eventful part of the biking was when I didn’t make a turn, just zipped on straight instead of turning.  The police man helping with the traffic just looked at me, didn’t bother to tell me I was going the wrong way.  I quickly realized what I had done and turned around and made the correct turn.  The biking part is so fun because I don’t really have to think, just move my legs.  I love the route because it takes me behind my BFF’s house and so I waved and said hi even though no one was outside.  Towards the end of the biking I started to get passed by several people, but I was o.k. with that.  As I came into the end of the biking part I saw Jonah and Jacob running around.  They yelled and waved and then Bryan and Brandon appeared.  As in my past triathlons the pictures are so terrible, I need to hirer a photographer next time!

IMG_1486

Off on the run I got high fives and hugs from my boys.  It is so hard to run after biking, I feel like my legs are rubber.  My friend Kristi, who trained with me, and I found that if we walk just for a minute before starting to run our legs adjust better.  So that is what I did and it helped.  I really felt fine on the run just super slow.  Many people passed me, but I didn’t care too much.  I made friends with a girl who had a knee injury, even limping she was a much faster runner than I, but she would stop to walk and I would catch her and we would talk, back and forth we went.  On the last mile Bryan and the boys drove by on their way to Jacob’s soccer game.  I finished the last stretch with as much energy as I could muster.  I finished in 1:35.  I was pleased, I did better in my first tri, but that was a shorter bike course and had the run first.  Actually my run time was pretty fast for me, so I liked that.

IMG_1487

(I know you are all very jealous of that picture, chubby and blurry)

I loved the race a lot.  As I stood in line for a free massage I chatted with a guy who convinced me I need to do an Olympic distance tri.  That was a goal of mine this year and I think he talked me into thinking I can do it.  Now to decide which one to do……

Just Jonah

I know I blog about Jonah A LOT, but that is what happens when only one child is home with me all day. Jonah and I do pretty much everything together. A lot of times I will be eating my breakfast and he will come sit on my lap and take over whatever I am eating (and how can I say no to him wanting to eat?), sometimes while I am in the shower he comes in the bathroom and asks if I am freezy cold, we go to Costco and Dick’s together (and any other store we need to go to), he sits on my lap while I am on the computer, or like right now he pushes me off the computer chair so that he can be sitting on my chair, he likes to take naps in my bed and say, Momma will you yay with me? Anyways you get the point, we are a team.

And we pose again for a cute picture together.

The other night I came downstairs dressed in a long skirt to go to Stake Conference. He touched my skirt and said, what is that? I told him it was a skirt (he has seen me wear a skirt a whole bunch of times), he replied, Oh you going dancing???? Where did that come from? Maybe it means I need to get dressed up and go dancing soon.

Anyway you look at it, Jonah baby and I are a pair and I yove him yots and yots!
